A pull bow is a flat ribbon with two thin cords inside. Pulling those cords automatically folds the ribbon into a full bow with loops.

What do you need?

  • A pull bow
  • The gift you want to decorate
  • Optionally, scissors to shorten the cords

Step by step: how to make the bow

  • 1. Find the pull cords

Take the flat ribbon. Two thin cords extend from the ribbon at one end. You’ll use them to shape the bow later.

  • 2. Keep the ribbon vertical

Hold the two strings together between the thumb and index finger of one hand. Let the ribbon hang down and hold it loosely with your other hand.

  • 3. Pull and slide along

Gently pull the strings upward and slide the ribbon upward with your other hand. The first loops will form automatically.

  • 4. Continue to the end

Keep pulling until the entire ribbon has gathered into a round ball of loops. If you feel resistance, don't pull harder; instead, adjust the ribbon a little.

  • 5. Arrange the loops

Turn the loops slightly to the left and right in turn so they are evenly distributed and the bow looks full.

  • 6. Tie the bow securely

Tie the bow with the long cords to the gift, for example around the steering wheel or on the front of a ride-on car. Tie a double knot and cut the ends shorter.

Tips for a beautiful result

  • Pull gently. Pulling too hard or jerkily can break a cord.
  • Choose a striking colour. A red bow on a white, black or blue ride-on car immediately catches the eye.
  • Big gift, big bow. On a ride-on, a wide bow looks best on the bonnet or steering wheel.
  • Remove the bow before riding. Remove the bow and cords before your child gets in, so nothing can get caught in the steering mechanism or wheels.
